Outdoor enthusiasts are well catered for with many exhilarating kilometres of waymarked paths, cycling tracks and off road mountain bike trails, each varying in gradient to suit all levels of ability.
Keen to cycle but don’t have your own bike? No problem, just visit Rik’s Bike Shed to hire one for the day, the afternoon or even for an hour. The extensive range of bikes, baby seats and trailers means that everyone in the family can join in.
Those who prefer to keep their feet firmly on the ground can expect to spot prolific native wildlife along the Country Park path network from otters and red squirrels to birds of prey. Nature lovers will also be delighted with ‘must see trees’ including the Drumlanrig Sycamore – one of the oldest in the country – and the very first Douglas Fir to be planted in the UK as well as a wealth of wildflowers and fauna.
After a good cycle run or walk in the grounds, why not treat the kids to a trip to the Adventure Playground for hours of outdoor fun on woodland slides and climbing frames.
Dogs are welcome here at Drumlanrig but must be kept on a lead in the Gardens. In the wider Country Park and woodlands, which provide habitat for our wildlife, we ask that they are kept close at heel and that common sense prevails. In the interests of Health and Safety, however, dogs are not permitted in the Adventure Playground. All dog excrement must be cleared up at all times and some Events do not permit dogs to take part.
Why not enjoy a delicious Afternoon Tea during your visit to Drumlanrig. The Tearoom has as its setting the original kitchen of the Castle with its copper pots and flagstone floor. To make the most of your visit to Drumlanrig and help plan your day, take advantage of the Ranger Service and the Visitor Centre located in the Stableyard. This is where you’ll also find Rik’s Bike Shed as well as a cluster of charming studios, the Stableyard Cafe and showers for mountain bikers.
Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate are committed to caring for the environmnet and are thrilled to have received a Silver Award for Green Tourism. Read about Drumlanrig's green credentials.
