The Plant Centre
The Plant Centre at Drumlanrig has been a great success ever since plans were drawn up and approved in late 2003.
The Plant Centre stocks a great range of plants, many of which are found growing here in the Gardens. A far wider range of Drumlanrig-grown plants including vegetables, rock plants and the best-selling herbaceous perennials are also available for purchase. Many plants on sale at the Plant Centre link directly to the Buccleuch family, including the Rosa Duchess De Buccleuch, Rhododendron Fragrantissima Duchesse de Buccleuch, Penstemon Countess of Dalkeith to name but a few.
In addition to the above home-grown plants, the Plant Centre stocks a large selection of shrubs, heathers, alpines, perennials, rhododendrons and conifers brought in from Scottish nurseries under the watchful eye of Drumlanrig Head Gardener, Robbie Black. Also on offer is an excellent variety of container and bedding plants including geraniums, begonias, impatiens, petunias, dahlias etc all at highly competitive prices.
New and more interesting additions will include the highly-sought-after Impatiens tinctoria (a scented white flower with red blotch), the Chilean Lantern Tree Crinodendron hookerianum, and Desfontainia spinosa (which has a leaf similar to a holly leaf but with beautiful, tubular, scarlet and bright yellow flowers) will join the Geranium wallichianum buxtons variety and the Dierama igneum (Angels Fishing Rod). The best seller in recent years has been the Himalayan Blue Poppy (Macanopsis betonicifolia).
The plant centre is open 7 days a week from 10am until 5pm so why not come along and brighten up your garden with a new plant or two.
