Welcome to Drumlanrig Castle, the ancient Douglas stronghold and Dumfriesshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, KBE.
Surrounded by the 120,000 acre Queensberry Estate, Country Park and grand Victorian Gardens, Drumlanrig Castle was completed in 1691 by William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry, and is one of the first and most important Renaissance buildings in the grand manner in Scotland. Steeped in history, this unique and historic Scottish Castle, filled with treasures, is one of the principal visitor attractions in South Scotland. With its Castle tours, beautiful gardens, wildlife, woodland walks, championship mountain bike trails and cycle routes, our boast of the finest recreation in South Scotland is not a hollow one.
The Queensberry Estate also offers some of the best field sports and salmon and loch fishing in Southern Scotland. Conservation and responsible land management by generations of the Montagu Douglas Scott family have ensured that the field sports offered meet the high expectations of the regular parties which visit the Estate each year to bag a brace or two of grouse or enjoy the other sporting opportunities on offer.

The archives at Drumlanrig Castle are part of a private collection and whilst the Buccleuch family try to accommodate scholars carrying out historic research, we are generally unable to provide details of Estate workers or people who may have lived on the Estate. Our advice would be to contact a reputable organisation which specialises in genealogy research.
