Conservation
Rangers monitor and survey the diverse wildlife inhabiting the Drumlanrig Estate, taking practical action if there is a threat to the survival of a particular species. Installing bird boxes, controlling grey squirrels and managing public access to prevent disturbance to breeding species are a few of the practical solutions employed by the Rangers.
Education
Rangers work with schools to encourage a greater understanding of the working country estate, the conservation and wildlife. Schools can take part in a wide range of activities which make learning about the countryside an enjoyable experience.
Recreation
Recreational facilities throughout the Estate are provided by the Rangers. Facilities include information boards and picnic benches at key sites as well as an array of way-marked walks, cycle routes, mountain bike trails, horse trails and an adventure playground for children. Rangers are more than happy to help visitors choose the right walk or cycle route to suit interests and abilities.
Events
Throughout the year, the Rangers organise guided walks and talks for the public to discover the wonders of nature for themselves. The Rangers also manage and co-ordinate many outdoor events, both for Buccleuch and external organisations. These events include adventure races, mountain bike races, orienteering and car rallies. Maintenance
In addition to the above, the Rangers maintain and restore all recreational facilities to ensure visitor satisfaction and safety.
