Expert Advice
Rik himself has been cycling for 35 years, mountain biking for 17. He has designed and built many trails on the estate and all over Scotland, including the technical red and black routes at Drumlanrig. If you need route advice, whether you are new to biking or an experienced rider, we can talk you through the best options and supply you with maps to make sure you get the most out of your experience at Drumlanrig.

Guided Rides
Guided rides are perfect if you’re visiting the area for the first time, or if you want a hassle-free, uninterrupted ride.  Use our insider knowledge to get the most out of the trails.

Book Rik by the hour, half day or full day to show you the best biking in Scotland!  As designer and builder of some of Scotland’s best loved trails, there is no-one better qualified to guide you round them!  Along with his years of experience on two wheels, Rik has been a qualified Mountain Bike Leader for as long as you can be one (his certificate is number 001!).

Transport from A to B….. Accommodation to Bike Trails!
As part of our complete guided ride package with no hassle, let us collect you (plus bikes) in our eight seater, off-road truck and transport you from your accommodation to the bike trails!  We can provide hire bikes for adults and kids if you need them.

Tuition and Skills Sessions
If you would love to try mountain biking but don’t know where to begin or if you would like the opportunity to improve your existing skills and get more out of the trails, then a skills session with Rik is the perfect opportunity to do just that.  As an SMBLA guide and British Cycling Coach, Rik is fully trained to coach groups or individuals at all levels and ages – from complete novice upwards.

Sessions are tailored to suit your individual or your group’s needs and experience.  Bikes for adults and kids are available for these sessions. Book by the hour, half day or full day.

Shop and Workshop
Rik’s Bike Shed incorporates a well equipped workshop, staffed by Cytec Approved bike mechanics, trained to get you back on (or off!) the road. In addition to repairs, if your bike is in need of a little TLC, then Rik’s Bike Shed offers bronze, silver or gold service packages to get your trusty steed riding like new again. We can also arrange re-sprays. Whatever your concern, we’re here to help and advise.

Rik’s Bike Shed has a selection of parts and accessories, along with equipment and clothing for men, women and children. We stock a range of funky, casual t-shirts and books - perfect souvenirs or presents to take home from your Scottish holiday. You can also fuel up on the energy bars and drinks in stock. If you’re looking for a bike we are happy to help and advise. We usually have second hand bikes from the hire fleet or can order in a new bike to suit your needs.

Cycle Museum
Dumfries and Galloway really is the home of cycling, in fact the first ever bike was invented just down the road from Drumlanrig Castle by Kirkpatrick Macmillan.  Rik’s Bike Shed is the gateway to the fascinating Cycle Museum at Drumlanrig where you can see a replica of Macmillan’s first bike, original penny farthings and trace the history of the bike through to present day.  Read more on the Cycle Museum.
