Entry to Drumlanrig includes access to the Country Estate, Gardens, Adventure Playground as well as a tour of the magnificent 17th Century Drumlanrig Castle, historical home of the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry, which promises to stimulate the children's minds, discovering the interesting architecture, historical connections, as well as the beautiful period furniture, treasures and works of art which lie within.

We can also arrange for school pupils to watch different rural businesses at work, such as farming and forestry, and also to learn about the integrated land uses within the Estate. A Ranger-led visit can be tailor-made to meet the specific requirements of each school and how it can be integrated within the curriculum.
Ranger led activities are suitable for Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools and can be adapted to suit. Activities include the following:
Open children eyes to the wide variety of maps, what the symbols mean and how navigate using a map.
Learn how a river system works, what creatures use this as their home and the adaptations that they have for surviving here.
Investigate what pond life is present, by catching and learning the different life cycles of both the creatures and the pond.
Visit one of the Buccleuch Farms to see how farms have changed through the years, where food comes from and the process it goes through before it arrives on your plate.
Discover the variety of live that lives in our woodlands, using an array of activities to engage the children with the wonders of the woodlands.
Investigate different trees, and how to tell them apart, how the woodland life cycle works, and the interdependency of all woodland life.
Cost Educational visits for the following activities are charged at a further £2.50 per child for each activity.
We offer three different self guided trails based on different subjects, which are all suitable for primary pupils. The packs contain instructions, maps and some equipment to enable you to complete the activity. There is some equipment which the pupils will have to bring along with them. Please see the individual activities for details. The packs will be sent out to you before your visit to enable the teacher to read through and understand what the activities are before you arrive.

Follow in the footsteps of explorers before you and journey through the woodlands to discover their secrets through fun activities.
