Queensberry Initiative

The Queensberry Initiative was borne out of the need to address concerns about getting children and young people out of the classroom to build a connection to their community and to economic life in Dumfries and Galloway, while improving their health and well-being.

Educational Initiatives at Drumlanrig

The purpose of the Queensberry Initiative is to promote closer links between the local schools and the Estate, to develop a sustainable programme for working together to enhance the curriculum, and to reduce the creditability gap between vocational and academic courses.

The programme is suitable for pupils of all academic abilities, to encourage those interested in vocational employment within the rural area and also those planning on a land-based career through college or university.  It is hoped to narrow the gap between attainment, achievement and participation and develop employability skills.

Queensberry Initiative Development Officer, Mrs Pat Kirby, is based at Wallace Hall Academy and a Project Worker and Clerical Support Worker have also been appointed.
