This Sunday (2nd May) Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate will host an environmental Puppet Show for children which not only aims to provide an enjoyable and colourful performance but also aims to educate youngsters on topical environmental issues.
With the help of six wildlife characters, the puppet show will present the facts and figures of why the care of woodland plays such a crucial role. Through a selection of entertaining scenarios, the performance maintains a strong sense of humour as well as covering topical issues including the environment, sustainability, climate change, recycling, forest management and more.
The puppet show is part of a Family Fun Day, which will also provide visitors with the chance to try their hand at archery and participate in interactive, educational and hands-on Birds of Prey demonstrations.
Sandra Collinge, Events Manager explains “Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate has some of the most picturesque landscapes in the country and the activities we have chosen for this weekend’s Family Fun Day not only provide fun for all ages, but they present the perfect opportunity for visitors to learn about wildlife and the surrounding environment.”
As part of its Family Fun Day, Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate is pleased to welcome the team from Frontline Falconry who are regarded as some of the best falconers in Scotland. The team will provide a static display throughout the day which will allow visitors to get up close and personal with various species of bird and to see and learn the difference between the species. In addition, an interactive free flying display (1pm) will provide entertainment for visitors. For those with a keen interest in birds, there will also be the opportunity to experience first hand how to fly and handle a bird of prey.
The archery sessions, which are likewise provided by Frontline Falconry, offer visitors the chance get to grips with a bow and take in some target practice as arrows are fired in a safe, fun and friendly environment.
Also on offer this Saturday and Sunday are child-friendly activities led by the Ranger Service. These include a ‘Make Your Own Binocular’ workshop (1pm) and a bark rubbings session (2.30pm).
In addition to the above bank holiday weekend activities, visitors can enjoy the majestic castle, over 40 acres of enchanting gardens and a wide range of activities for all the family. These include challenging mountain bike trails, numerous walking paths, a children’s adventure playground, local shopping opportunities and children’s tours of both the castle and the Scottish Cycle Museum.
