DC Outdoor Theatre - Mr Twits - 6pm 11th July 2012

Open Air Theatre at Drumlanrig

Also on offer:
Henry V, and
HMS Pinafore

In 2010 Illyria was the first UK open-air touring company to be granted permission to perform the work of Roald Dahl. Our highly acclaimed production of "James and the Giant Peach" was followed in 2011 with a sensational sellout season of "Fantastic Mr Fox". Now Illyria returns with an even BIGGER Dahl classic!

Mr and Mrs Twit never wash, and they live in a smelly old caravan. Bored of playing cruel tricks on each other, they decide to open a circus. They capture a family of monkeys and brutally train them to perform in the ring. The local birds try to help by tricking the Twits into believing the world has turned upside down and dropping glue into their hair. Only when the Twits have met a sticky end, and only if the audience plays its part, can the monkeys finally be released.

Illyria promises a slimily, stickily, revoltingly funny show, from the most popular children's author in the world. If you DON'T want to see someone finding a glass eyeball in their beer; if you DON'T want to see someone picking scraps of food from someone else's beard and eating them; if you DON'T want to see someone tucking into worms thinking they're spaghetti - then DON'T SEE THIS SHOW!!!

Drumlanrig's excellent and popular open-air theatre shows are held on the Oval Lawn in the shadow of the stunning Drumlanrig Castle.  Bring your own rugs or low back seating and a tasty picnic if you wish while you sit back and enjoy the show.

About Illyria's Children's Performances

Illyria's Theatre for Children has one principal aim: great storytelling. Brightly costumed and accompanied by live music, the shows address their target audience in an intelligent, unpatronising and entertaining way.

Illyria does not espouse the pc view that Theatre for Children should be cleansed of cruelty, peril, or even death. We know that children are a demanding audience, and can sniff out such dishonesty. Our shows often deal with these topics in a sensitive, direct - and sometimes even humorous - manner. Perhaps that is why they are so popular.

For a significant number of young people in every audience, we appreciate that Illyria will be their first exposure to live theatre. We take this responsibility seriously, and strive to make our shows an experience they will remember for all the right reasons.

Illyria was the first of the UK open-air touring theatre companies to tour Theatre for Children on the same full-season scale as its adult productions. Illyria was also the first of the UK open-air touring theatre companies to be granted permission to perform the works of Roald Dahl.

Founder/artistic director Oliver Gray has a genuine passion for Children's Theatre, inspired by his experience as an actor in the West End production of The BFG directed by the leading writer/director for children in the coutry, David Wood.
