A huge crowd gathered in the Stableyard at Drumlanrig for a super spooky Halloween Party last Saturday. Witches, Draculas, zombies and even a robot enjoyed the games, competitions and disco. Rolf Buwert, local Storyteller, led groups around the grounds for some scary tales assisted by a hooded zombie (Brian the Ranger) who jumped out from behind trees to ensure plenty of screams and thrills! Delicious seasonal goodies were served up in the Cafe including pumpkin soup, toffee apple scones and hot dogs.
Following a brilliant show by Jason the Juggling Jester, all of the children took home a party bag and, hopefully, not too many nightmares.
A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon!

A glorious sunny morning at Drumlanrig saw an excited group set off on the Autumn Forage just after 11am led by wild food expert, Mark Williams. After a couple of hours discovering a huge variety of fungi and edible plants, we returned to the Stableyard for a well-earned picnic. Mark then cooked up a pot of delicious sorrel soup followed by sauteed mushrooms with crusty bread from Loch Arthur.
The children joined the Rangers for shelter-building and firelighting and the day was rounded off with a warming hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows!
We shall be having another Forage Day in the Spring - don't miss out! Keep a look-out for further details here in the New Year

The 2012 Galloway Country Fair last weekend was a huge success and the response from the public has been truly phenomenal! There really was something for everyone with plenty of highlights and good memories to look back on. Visitor numbers were similar to last year which is fantastic considering the sometimes challenging weather conditions. Once again the Illyria theatre company did us proud with their 3 open air productions set on the Oval Lawn in front of Drumlanig Castle. Whether you are a Shakespeare buff, a Gilbert and Sullivan fan or simply looking for a way to entertain the kids, there was something for everyone. Despite the occasional threat of rain, all 3 productions - Henry V, HMS Pinafore and The Twits - went without a hitch and even attracted some considerable sunshine. All were thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended. It is definitely a fantastic way to enjoy the magic of theatre - helped along by a sumptuous picnic washed down by some delicious wine. Look out for Illyria at Drumlanrig next year.

Yes, if you came to Drumlanrig Castle last weekend you will have found mud everywhere. Not as a consequence of the recent wet weather but deliberately executed by our friends in Tough Mudder. And what an event! 6000 Mudder participants on the Saturday followed by a further 1000 on the Sunday (were they mad or what?) took to the lochs, woods and fields around Drumlanrig - 11 miles in total - and put themselves through some of the most gruelling exercises created by the British Special Forces, with the main ingredient .... yes, you've guessed it .... MUD! Congratulations to everyone who took part and especially those who completed the course. You have well and truly earned the accolade of being a Mudder. I have to say, it was very exciting being a spectator too - and a lot cleaner!
