Salmon & Sea Trout
The River Nith is the largest and best known river in Dumfries and Galloway and has established a reputation for the quality of its salmon and sea trout. The river rises at New Cumnock, in Ayrshire, and travels south through the beautiful Nithsdale scenery and on to its mouth at the Solway.
Drumlanrig Castle Fishings comprise a length of seven miles encompassing 28 pools and broadening from rocky gorge into gravelled riverbed with a variety of deep pools. The reaches provide accessible fishing for both salmon and sea trout and consist of four beats: Lower, Middle, Upper and Nith Linns, each approximately 1.5 to 2 miles long. The season is longer than on most rivers extending from 25 February to 30 November.
