Drumlanrig Castle Fishings
For generations our fishings have been carefully managed as the private waters of Drumlanrig Castle, the magnificent 17th Century home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry.

The River Nith is the largest and best known river in Dumfries and Galloway and has established a reputation for the quality of its Salmon and Sea Trout.
The river rises at New Cumnock, in Ayrshire, and travels south through the beautiful Nithsdale scenery and on to its mouth at the Solway.
Drumlanrig Castle Fishings comprise a length of seven miles encompassing 28 pools and broadening from rocky gorge into gravelled riverbed with a variety of deep pools. The reaches provide accessible fishing for both Salmon and Sea Trout and consist of four beats: Lower, Middle, Upper and Nith Linns, each approximately 1.5 to 2 miles long. The season is longer than on most rivers extending from 25 February to 30 November.
Prices range from £20 to £80 per rod per day. The Castle Beats take a maximum of 4 rods while the Nith Linns take 6.
The first FOUR fish (2 Salmon and 2 Sea Trout) may be taken, thereafter catch and release.
Children's Tickets are available for £10 per day/evening per child. Children must be aged 16 and under and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The first TWO fish (1 Salmon and 1 Sea Trout) may be taken, thereafter catch and release.
Drumlanrig Castle Fishings are offering Grayling fishing during the winter months, 1 - 31 December and 5 January to 31 March. Costs are currently £10 per rod with a maximum of 6 rods on each of the four private River Nith beats (Lower, Middle, Upper and Nith Linns).
There will be no Sunday fishing, and catch and release is requested.
Fishermen are asked not to wade in the water because of spawning redds. A maximum of 3½lb breaking strain should be used and it is suggested that nymph, maggot, sweetcorn and fly are the most suitable means of catching Grayling.
The four trout lochs at Drumlanrig Castle Fishings (Morton Castle, Starburn, Slatehouse and Farthingbank) are set in the most scenic and secluded settings. They vary in acreage and offer excellent Rainbow and Wild Brown Trout fishing throughout the season - April to November inclusive.
Fly fishing only is permitted and barbless hooks must be used. Brown Trout average 1lb and Rainbow 2lbs but with some reaching up to 4lbs.
Prices: £24 per adult per day, £15 per evening. A boat is available on 3 lochs on a first come first served basis for £5 (not Farthingbank). The first TWO fish caught may be taken and thereafter catch and release.
A Sporting Ticket is also available: £20 per adult per day, £8 per child. Catch and release only.
Children's Tickets are available for £10 per day/evening per child from 1 April - 30 September. Children must be aged 16 and under and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The FIRST fish may be taken, thereafter catch and release.
Coarse Fishing is offered on two lochs - Dabton Pond and Morton Loch - and both are stocked with Tench. Tickets are priced at £7.00 per Rod (including VAT).
